We therefore jumped at the chance when we were invited by the Irvine Clean Up Crew to be part of a litter pick in an area quite close to our offices. Before embarking on the litter pick, we assessed the site and realised we would need much more help due to the sheer amount of litter and rubbish, so we teamed up with local business Ailsa Reliability Solutions Ltd. With ten volunteers, including a member of the Irvine Clean Up Crew who kindly provided the equipment (litter grabbers, bags and bag hoops), we collected over 40 bags of litter in just two hours, which was then uplifted by the North Ayrshire Council refuse team.

The benefits of litter picking to the environment may seem obvious, such as reducing pollution, protecting wildlife, and the preservation of our ecosystems. Moreover, no one wants to see their local communities look untidy and it just shows that ‘many hands make light work’. By working together as a community and showing a sense of civic pride, we can make visible and positive change and hopefully encourage further positive actions.
