David Ramsay started the company in 1986 and went on to devise the Kelvin TOP-SET Incident Investigation Methodology, including the outline design for the TOP-SET software products.

He has a long history of working in business at senior levels including advisory and consultancy in various industries. He was also, for a short period, a visiting tutor at the University of Glasgow in what is now the Adam Smith Business School. His own educational background is quite extensive and includes attendance on The Cranfield University Aircrash Investigation Course.

He has led the development of Kelvin TOP-SET and has worked around the world from Norway to Australia, from Canada to Far East Russia and from South Africa to Brazil conducting courses and leading or facilitating investigations in many industrial sectors, including, railways, oil, nuclear, shipping, and explosives. He played a major part in the investigation of the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.

David now concentrates mainly on the strategic development of the group, overseeing all investigations and the development of new products, particularly e-learning.

Lorna Ramsay, MA (Hons), Dip.Ed.

Group Operations Director of the Kelvin TOP-SET Companies and Director of Learning and Tutor Development.

Lorna Ramsay is joint owner of the TOP-SET group of companies and has worked with David since 1994 evolving and developing the TOP-SET methodology, philosophy and products – and the business. She has a background in linguistics, education and psychology and, as Director of Learning and Tutor Development, has the primary responsibility for education and course development.

With a long history of working as a teacher, lecturer in Communications and as a business coach, her focus is on the constant improvement and the quality control of the TOP-SET tutors and materials worldwide. To this end, she travels extensively from Europe to the Far East, from Russia to Australia working with tutors and clients from many different companies, sectors and cultures.

The excellence of our course content and delivery is fundamental to TOP-SET’s reputation and Lorna is instrumental in the selection and development of Kelvin TOP-SET tutors, teaching this diverse group of senior professionals to deliver to the high standard that the business and its clients expect.

Lorna’s focus is on the people, and, when in the UK, she works with Brian running the Kelvin companies making sure that change and changes are managed effectively and harmoniously.

When there is some space, and they find themselves in Scotland, Lorna enjoys time with David in their caravan, avoiding airports.

Brian McConnell, Chief Executive and Finance Director

Brian McConnell

Focusing on the legal and financial compliance of the various business units, Brian uses his 20 years of business consulting experience to help run the company on a daily basis. As Chief Executive and Finance Director he is responsible for the company meeting its corporate objectives.

Brian originally joined the company in 1987 before parting ways for a time to form his own consulting and accounting services business. He has been involved at senior levels in companies ranging from telecoms to architecture, and retail to manufacturing. Over the years he has maintained close ties with the Kelvin Group of companies, advising the Directors on financial and strategy issues.

Formally returning to the company in 2008, Brian sold his business to allow him to focus on working with the other Directors and staff members to grow Kelvin TOP-SET. More recently he has been instrumental in the opening of the new Kelvin TOP-SET office in Houston, Texas.

Brian is currently working with other team members to grow Kelvin TOP-SET's operations further. As well as ensuring the financial and legal compliance in the UK, Brian is also responsible for the overseas compliance.

When spare time permits he enjoys spending time with his wife Fiona and two daughters Alex & Eilidh. On the few occasions when the weather is kind he looks forward to jumping on his Triumph Tiger motorcycle for a tour of the beautiful Highlands of Scotland.
